Autism and ADHD Assessments
Seeking an autism or ADHD assessment for yourself or your child can be a daunting process. Our six-step process aims to make the assessment journey feel predictable from the start.
1
Referrals and enquiries
We offer a free 30 minute initial screening phone call to determine whether an autism and/or ADHD assessment is right for you or your child. This does not require a referral from your GP. If we agree a diagnostic assessment is the right step for you or your child, then we will move forward with the remainder of the assessment process. To access your free initial screening and begin the assessment process, please complete our self-referral form here.
2
Screening
As part of the assessment process you will receive an information pack with carefully selected questionnaires. These questionnaires will help us develop a comprehensive understanding of the individual being assessed. For children, we will also send questionnaires to school or college, with your consent.
3
Developmental history
Following this, we will schedule an appointment to gather a developmental history. This is usually completed online via video call with a parent or carer for child assessments. For adult assessments, this will include another family member, a partner, or a friend. During this appointment we discuss you or your child's life as well as their unique strengths and challenges. This interview is based on the gold standard tools such as the ADI-R or DISCO.
4
Observational assessment
For the observational stage of the assessment we will visit you or your child at home or at school. We will use the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) or the DIVA. This involves doing tasks, games and asking questions. We also offer an online assessment using an ADOS informed approach.
5
Multidisciplinary discussion
The clinicians involved in the assessment meet to develop a shared understanding of you, or your child's unique profile, including strengths and differences. This involves thinking about whether they meet criteria for a diagnosis or if not, how their differences can be understood. In line with NICE guidance for autism assessments, there will always be atleast two different professionals involved in the discussion (e.g. a clinical psychologist and speech and language therapist).
6
Feedback and report
After the assessment, we will schedule a feedback appointment, during which we will share the outcome of the assessment as well as insight into our decision-making. We will also share our recommendations and any appropriate resources This will be written up into a full report for individuals and parents or carers to share with relevant professionals and can be used to support onward referrals as well as work or education and support planning.
At Orenia, we are dedicated to recognising and celebrating the unique strengths of neurodivergent individuals. Some of our clinicians are neurodivergent themselves, and we all share a deep commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality, and professional care. We understand that every person’s journey is different, which is why our assessments are flexible and tailored to your individual needs.

We offer a 'gold-standard' autism assessment service for both adults and children from age 7 and above. This means that our process follows the recommendations and guidelines set by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). Whether we are assessing an adult or a child, we always assign two clinicians with different clinical expertise to ensure a well-rounded, multi-disciplinary perspective. For more complex cases, particularly those involving trauma or attachment difficulties, we ensure that an experienced psychologist is involved. Every assessment is completed with the individual and their needs in mind. Our goal is to ensure that our service helps you to better understand you or your child and in turn positively improve your life.

We know that autism in women, girls, or those with non-standard presentations are often overlooked or misdiagnosed. Our team has extensive expertise in recognising, and accurately diagnosing autism in individuals of all ages and presentations, ensuring you or your child receives the necessary understanding and support.
